The council uses the allocation scheme to decide which of the people who apply to us for a council or housing association tenancy are made an offer of accommodation. Unfortunately there are not enough council and housing association homes for everyone; currently there are more than six times as many people on the list as homes available.
To manage this, we have a housing waiting list for those who have applied for and have the chance of being offered a property. This is called the Housing register
We now only place people on our waiting list if they have an assessed housing need and a chance of being re-housed.
Our full revised housing allocation policy is available to download below. You can also view a summary of the allocations scheme.
