Regina Road

We want residents, local artists, creatives and anyone interested in art, landscape or placemaking to help develop the Public Art and Placemaking Strategy for the Regina Road regeneration.

The strategy will look at how art, design and landscaping could help create a distinctive neighbourhood that reflects the history, character and community of Regina Road and the surrounding area.

You can come to a workshop on Thursday 1 October to find out about the ideas being considered and share your views.

About public art and placemaking

Public art and placemaking is not just about standalone pieces of artwork. It can include art and creative design as part of buildings, streets and public spaces.

At Regina Road, this could include:

• murals and other artwork
• paving and surface designs
• planting and landscaping
• sculptures
• signs and wayfinding
• street and block names
• community garden features

These are early ideas. No final decisions have been made.

Your feedback will help shape the strategy.

Ideas for the designs

Some of the ideas being explored are inspired by the history and natural heritage of South Norwood, including:

• the Great North Wood, which gave Norwood its name
• the former Croydon Canal and local waterways
• South Norwood's brickmaking history
• Webber Bros, a local sporting goods company whose footballs were used in FA Cup finals

We also want to hear about other local stories, traditions and community memories that you think should be represented.

The workshop will consider these alongside the cultures, experiences and traditions of the community today.

Come along to the workshop

At the workshop, you can share your views on:

• the local stories and heritage that should be celebrated
• the types of art and creative features you would like to see
• where art and placemaking could be included
• how the community could be involved
• local artists, schools or community groups that could take part

You do not need to be an artist or have any previous experience to take part.

The workshop will be hosted by Farrer Huxley, working with Lovell and Croydon Council.
