The assessment process
1. Talk to us
Speak to a member of our friendly team about your desire to foster and the next steps.
2. Attend an Information Session
These sessions are run by members of our team and give you the opportunity to learn more about Croydon’s fostering service and the role of a foster carer. You can also ask questions to our experienced foster carers
3. Home Visit
A member of our team will visit you in your home. We will check that your home environment is safe and suitable for the child in your care. We will ask to look at your communal living space, foster bedroom, and garden if you have one.
4. Skills to Foster Training
We will invite you to attend a 3 day training course which will give you the knowledge and skills to care for a vulnerable child or young person
5. Assessment
A dedicated Assessing Social Worker will meet with you over the course of the next months, putting a report together that will be sent to the fostering panel.
6. Panel
A group of independent people makes up the Fostering Panel. They will read the assessment report, ask you some questions, and make a recommendation of approval.
The assessment process should take 3 to 6 months
