Petition guidance

The council may decide not to do anything further with petitions if:

• the facts upon which the petition is based is considered materially inaccurate
• the Petition is considered defamatory, discriminatory or could incite civil unrest, it shall not be received or debated by Full Council
• the Petitions is submitted in response to a statutory process or any associated consultations undertaken by the Council. It will not be validated under this process
• the subject matter of a Petition has been debated at Full Council within a period of twelve months, and where a similar or substantially similar matter has been debated by council in the previous six months or is due to be debated within the next six months, the Petition shall not be deemed to be valid

When you do not have enough signatures of Local People in support of your petition, democratic services may thereafter advise that you collect additional signatures.
