How council tenants can pay their rent, get payment advice, and find out more about rent and service charges.
Rent and service charges are calculated according to the type of home you live in and the services you receive.
We review rent and service charges every year, and we will give you 28 days' notice of any changes or increases.
The rent you pay is calculated based on the number of bedrooms in your home and the value of your property (based on valuations in 1999).
The weekly rent charge for your home is made up of 3 areas.
1. Net rent: the basic charge for your home, depending on its size and location.
2. Service charge: for services provided, such as estate cleaning, grounds maintenance, communal lighting, door entry system maintenance and lifts.
3. Fuel charges: for heating and hot water where your home is served by district heating.

Your rent increase for 2026 to 2027 is 4.8 per cent. This started on Monday 6 April 2026.
It is based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) figure from September 2025, plus 1 per cent (CPI+1). The CPI in September 2025 was 3.8 per cent.
The CPI is published by the Office for National Statistics. It measures monthly changes in prices of goods and services bought by people in the UK. This helps us to know what things cost at a point in time.
You may have to pay service charges if you have communal facilities or specific services. This might include upkeep of communal areas or lift maintenance charges. Some charges are based on the size of your property or level of service that you receive.
