Late applications

If you have not applied yet, you must apply now via the late application process.

In-year admissions

If you need to apply for a school place after you child has already started primary school, or after the school year has begun, visit our primary in-year admissions page.

Waiting lists

If a school is oversubscribed and there are more applicants than places available, the admission authority will keep a waiting list.

Waiting list positions

Waiting list positions are ordered according to the admissions criteria of the school. They are not ordered on a first come first served basis.

The position on a waiting list can change, e.g.

A child with a higher priority status according to the admissions criteria, will be added to the waiting list at a higher position regardless of the application date.

If a child is offered and accepts a place at one of their higher preference schools, their name will be removed from the waiting list. Then your child’s position on the waiting list will move up accordingly. If a school place becomes available and your child is at the top of the waiting list, your child will be offered a place.

Lower preference school offers

Children who receive an offer at a lower preference school through the normal round of admissions to reception class, will be automatically placed on the waiting list for higher preference schools.

Please note it is your responsibility to inform the local authority if you do not want your child to be on the waiting for a higher preference school. In the event that a place becomes available at one of your higher preference schools, the place offered at your lower preference school will automatically be withdrawn.

First preference school offers

Parents who receive an offer at their first preference school can only make requests for their child to be added to the waiting list for lower preference schools in exceptional circumstances. Any change in circumstances will need to be supported with relevant evidence.

Checking your child's waiting list position

If you want to know where your child is on a waiting list you can contact the relevant local authority or school. Croydon Council maintains waiting lists for its community schools, and some non-community schools.

Closing date of waiting lists

Waiting lists for reception close on 31 December 2020. After this you will need to apply through the in-year application process

Waiting lists for schools not in Croydon

If in the normal round of admissions to the reception class, you have named schools outside of Croydon, you must check the relevant local authority’s arrangements to be placed onto their waiting list.
