Registering a birth: step by step

Read GOV.UK's guidance on who can register a birth.

You do not need to bring your baby to your registration appointment. Due to limited accessibility, if you want to bring your baby you will need to use the entrance through the Clock Tower Library.

The entrance is at 9 Katharine St, Croydon, CR0 1NX. Please use the lift to get to the first floor, and follow the signage to the registry office.

If the parents cannot register the birth

You can get:

someone who was present at the birth
someone who is responsible for the child
a member of the administrative staff at the hospital where the child was born
