Registering a birth: step by step

You must make an appointment if you want to register at Croydon Register Office.

Your appointment will last about 20 minutes. You must arrive 10 minutes before your appointment starts. You do not need to bring your baby to your registration appointment. Due to limited accessibility, if you want to bring your baby you will need to use the entrance through the Clock Tower Library.

The entrance is at 9 Katharine St, Croydon, CR0 1NX. Please use the lift to get to the first floor, and follow the signs to the registry office.

It is a legal requirement to register a birth within 42 days of your baby being born. 

You will need a birth certificate when applying for any benefits related to the birth of a newborn. 

You must have an appointment to register a birth at Croydon Register Office. We do not allow walk-in appointments. You must observe social distancing rules when you attend your appointment.
