What you need to know

The pilot Community Collection Day service is a free service for Croydon residents in participating areas. The aim of the service is to help residents dispose of bulky waste responsibly, reduce fly-tipping, increase recycling, and support cleaner neighbourhoods across Croydon.

When you should put your items out

Items should be available for collection by 10am on the day of the event.

Collection crews will not remove items from inside your property.

You must:

  • bring your items to your property boundary or designated collection point
  • clearly label your items for removal. Items not labelled and left out will not be collected. We recommend the wording: ‘For community collection day, please take’.

You must not:

  • leave items after the collection has passed. Residents remain responsible for items until they have been collected. Any uncollected items must be removed by the resident.

Commercial waste will not be accepted.

What happens after items are collected

Items will be assessed for:

  • reuse
  • recycling
  • safe disposal where reuse or recycling is not possible

Resident associations and community groups involved in the pilot

The residents' associations and communities currently participating are:

  • Spring Park Residents' Association
  • Tamworth Estate Residents' Association
  • Elm Park Estate Residents' Association
  • Thornton Heath Community Action Team
  • Norbury Village Green Residents’ Association

Why some items are not collected

An item will not be collected if it is:

  • ineligible
  • unsafe to remove
  • presented after the collection vehicle has passed

the resident will remain responsible for its removal and disposal.

Upholstered furniture

Sofas, armchairs and other upholstered seating may require separate handling and should be presented separately where possible.
