You could get a bursary to help with education-related costs if you’re aged 16 to 19 and:

  • studying at a publicly funded school or college in England - not a university
  • on a training course, including unpaid work experience

At Be Inspired, we specialise in supporting young people affected by serious youth violence (SYV) and criminal exploitation (CE). 

With the rise in SYV, it is more crucial than ever to provide immediate and effective interventions to tackle these urgent challenges. Our holistic approach integrates high-risk mentoring, community engagement, and therapeutic services to address the complex needs of at-risk youth. All our services are free for young people and accessible across various boroughs in London.”

Better: Public sports and leisure facilities

Better aims to get people more active. They promote healthy and active lifestyles, giving communities access to facilities that help improve their health and happiness through participation in activities. 


In the Croydon area they have the Croydon Community Hub, the Outdoor hub for sports, training, events and local sports teams and 33 tennis courts across 14 parks in the borough.

They also offer a range of activities including:

CAYSH: homelessness support

CAYSH works with young people facing homelessness in London, providing safe homes and support to enable them to achieve their potential.

Services include:

  • housing pathway
  • lodgings
  • support officers

CAYSH operates the appointment free Drop in Zone in Croydon for 16-25s, providing general advice on just about anything and specialist advice to those facing homelessness.

CALAT offers courses working alongside local communities and employers. You can study:

Croydon Drop In (CDI)

  If you are aged between 10 to 25 years old our counsellors can offer you free face-to-face or online counselling.

Sessions last 40-50 minutes.  We will offer you 6 sessions to start with at a regular time every week where you can talk safely without being judged about what’s happening with you. We’ll help you to figure out your individual challenges and find solutions. We are good listeners and will treat you with respect.

Croydon Judo Club

Croydon Judo Club holds Judo classes for young people. There are children's classes for those under 16 years old. This is a safe (no kicking or punching) environment that enables children to play and enjoy the sport as well as learn key skills to improve their overall health and mental stamina.

There are also classes for those who are aged 16+. Each of the adult classes has a slightly different feel, from technical proficiency to competitive practice and free practice (randori)
