Sheltered housing offers the peace of mind in knowing that support is available 24 hours a day, with an alarm system that can be activated from the rooms in your flat and from the communal areas.
Who qualifies
Sheltered Housing is available to people over 60 who are:
- a Croydon council or housing association tenant
- a tenant of a private landlord
- a qualifying owner-occupier
- able to live independently with no or few care needs
If you are a couple and only one partner is over 60, you may qualify if there is not a large age gap.
You might also be considered for sheltered housing if you:
• are over 55 and it would meet your needs
• have a disability or certain medical conditions
• are a private homeowner willing to exchange your property to be rented by the council
