Sheltered housing
Sheltered housing is designed to meet the needs of older people who are seeking a home for independent living into their retirement.
Who qualifies
Sheltered housing is for people aged 67 and over. You may also qualify if you are over 55 and have a proven need to live in sheltered housing, for example you have a disability or certain medical conditions.
There is no upper age limit, and most tenants are active and independent.
Sheltered Housing is available to people over who are:
- Croydon council or housing association tenants
- tenants of a private landlord
- a qualifying owner-occupier
- able to live independently with no or few care needs
If you are a couple and only one partner is over 67, you may qualify if there is not a large age gap.
