Landlord licensing
On 25 September 2026, 2 new property licensing schemes came into force in Croydon:
- Selective Licensing Scheme for single family properties
- Additional HMO Licensing Scheme for smaller Houses in Multiple Occupation
It is now a legal requirement for a landlord to hold a selective or additional HMO licence for any qualifying property in the designated areas, in addition to the current requirement to licence mandatory houses in multiple occupation (HMO).

Report an unlicensed property
Not all rented properties require a licence, but if you think a property should have a licence and it is not on the public register, please report it to us.
Please provide the following information:
- your name
- your email address
- if you want your report to be anonymous
- address of the property
- your relationship to the property (such as neighbour or tenant)
- name of owner/landlord (if known)
- any further information about the property
