A tenants right to request energy efficiency improvements

Under Part 2 of The Energy Efficiency (Private Rented Property) (England and Wales) Regulations 2015 a tenant can request their landlord’s consent to making energy efficiency improvements to the landlord’s property that they as the tenant are wishing to fund. The landlord must consider the request and may not unreasonably refuse consent. It is important to note that landlords are not required to contribute funding for any measures requested through the tenants’ energy efficiency provisions. 

In all cases, we would advise tenants to discuss their energy efficiency improvement plans with their landlord before submitting a formal consent request. This will help them determine whether a formal request for consent is required, or whether a more informal route would be appropriate. Further information can be found on the Gov.uk website
