Safety checks

We carry out regular safety checks in residents' homes and communal areas to make sure buildings, equipment and services are safe, working properly and meet legal requirements.

What we check

Our inspections cover:

  • electrical systems, including wiring, lighting and communal electrics
  • fire safety equipment, such as fire alarms, emergency lighting, sprinklers and smoke control systems
  • gas and heating systems, including boilers and gas appliances
  • lifts and access equipment, such as lifts, hoists and stairlifts
  • water systems, including checks to reduce the risk of Legionella
  • ventilation systems to help improve air quality and reduce damp and mould
  • building safety features, including fire doors, gates and access control systems

Inspection frequencies vary depending on the type of equipment and legal requirements.

What this means for you

If a safety check needs to be carried out:

  • we will contact you to arrange access to your home
  • we will give you advance notice about safety checks wherever possible and minimise disruption
  • do keep your appointment to help keep you and your neighbours safe

All inspections will be carried out by qualified contractors or council staff.
