Our response to climate change

Climate Action Forum - be part of the change

We have set up a Climate Action Forum (CAF) which is open to any charity, school, business, association or organisation in the borough to join. This will help form part of our solution for tackling the climate crisis.

The forum meets every 2 months and builds on the success of our first in-person event of 18 November 2025. It brings residents, partners and community groups together to:

  • stay informed
  • share ideas
  • explore practical climate solutions
  • help shape our borough’s journey to a more sustainable future

  • help us understand what type of resources and support would be most beneficial to you

The next CAF date will be announced here as soon as it is confirmed.

This year, in addition to delivering the climate action plan, we will focus on:

  • local area energy plans
  • developing adaptation measures
  • community energy
  • community engagements and partnerships

Climate crisis response

In July 2019, we declared a climate emergency. We set up the Croydon Climate Crisis Commission to guide our response to the climate emergency. 

In June 2021 the commission produced a report which included recommendations on how the borough can become carbon neutral.

The Carbon Neutral Action Plan was revised to a Climate Action Plan in June 2025.

We are holding a bi-annual in-person and a bi-monthly online Climate Action Forum (CAF) to bring together external organisations, interest groups, and Council officers to share updates, exchange ideas, and collaborate on shaping and delivering the Council’s Climate Action Plan.

The first in-person Climate Action Forum (CAF) was held on 18 November 2025 and the second online CAF was held on 4 February 2026. You can read the presentation and minutes of the meetings: 

Croydon Climate Action Plan

Our Climate Action Plan 2030 has been formally approved. This builds on our earlier Carbon Neutral Action Plan and responds to the challenges which all councils are facing in delivering actions to address climate change.

Croydon's Carbon Report

The carbon report outlines our progress towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and delivering on our climate commitments. It provides an account of: 

  • our organisational carbon footprint
  • updates on progress so far
  • our plans for future reductions

As part of our commitment to tackling climate change, we will:

  • publish this report every year to track progress towards net zero
  • showcase key achievements
  • identify areas for improvement
  • keep our residents, businesses, and partners informed

UK Business Climate Hub

The UK Business Climate Hub is a collaboration between the UK Government, businesses and business groups across the UK. The hub provides net zero advice for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK.
