Improving air quality

Croydon’s Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP), outlines the action we are taking to improve air quality in Croydon

Cleaner transport

pollution emissions from transport, and our Air Quality Action Plan includes the following actions:

  • undertake idling vehicle patrols and enforcement at hot spots such as taxi ranks, bus stands and schools (see our webpage about how we are tackling engine idling)
  • speed control measures e.g. lowering the legal speed limit to 20mph in built up residential areas
  • increasing the proportion of electric, hydrogen and ultra low emission vehicles in car clubs
  • installation of public and residential electric charging points as well as rapid chargers to help enable the take up of electric taxis, cabs and commercial vehicles
  • provision of infrastructure to support walking and cycling
  • prioritisation of road space to reduce parking at some destinations and or restricting parking on congested high streets

Here’s what you can do to help reduce air pollution emissions from transport:

  • walk or cycle on your journeys if you are able to do so
  • check whether a car club membership may be suitable for you
