Written Ministerial Statement June 2025

The Written Ministerial Statement follows the publication of the final letter from Croydon’s Improvement and Assurance Panel (IAP), appointed by the government in 2021.

The government has announced that it is ‘minded to’ appoint commissioners at Croydon, owing to the severity of the council’s financial situation caused by the historic debt and increasing service demand. It has invited representations ahead of a final decision.

The council will be considering its formal response to the government, and putting forward its preferred option for working with them from July.
