Apply or renew a club gaming or club machine permit

If you run a private members club and operate up to 3 category B4, C or D gaming machines plus games of chance you must have a club gaming permit.

Who can apply

You can apply for a club machine and club gaming permit if you're part of a members’ clubs, miners’ welfare institutes, and commercial club.

What the permits allow you to do

A club gaming permit allows your club to offer:

  • equal chance gaming such as poker and bingo
  • games of chance (pontoon and chemin de fer only)
  • up to three gaming machines in total of categories B3A, B4, C or D, but by agreement, only one machine can be of category B3A

A club machine permit allows your club to offer:

  • equal chance gaming such as poker and bingo
  • up to three gaming machines in total of categories B3A, B4, C or D, but by agreement, only one machine can be of category B3A (B3A not permitted for commercial clubs)

Fee

It costs £200 for a new application and to renew a permit.

After you've applied

Your permit will only be issued to you when all the necessary inspections and checks have been carried out and the premises meets the required standards.

If you're permits are granted, they will be valid for 10 years.

Annual fee

The annual fee of £50 becomes payable on the anniversary of the grant of the licence. You can pay your annual fee online. Please note the first annual fee is payable within 30 days of the permit being issued. 

Payment can also be made over the telephone by credit or debit card. To arrange payment by telephone, please email licensing@croydon.gov.uk.
 

If your permit is rejected

You can appeal the rejection or any conditions of your permit to the Croydon Magistrates Court.

You may also have to attend a hearing.

If your permit is lost or stolen

It costs £15 for a new permit.
