Find out about cremation services in Croydon Crematorium.
The cremated remains belong to the person who completes the application for cremation. We will hand them to a funeral director acting for the applicant but not to any other relative, no matter how close, nor any other person, without the express written permission of the applicant. This is to avoid any family disputes over ownership which are a regular occurrence following a death.
The placing and commemoration of the cremated remains is a very individual decision. It is made easier if the deceased stated a particular wish over their final placement. They can be taken away for burial in a grave, strewn on a favourite location or kept at home. If strewn on a favourite spot, the permission of the landowner is theoretically necessary before this is done. If the remains are placed on water then the Environment Agency requests that they not be scattered from a bridge, and that no wreaths or cellophane bags be placed in the water.
Cremated remains graves are available in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Reclaimed cremated remains graves are available at Mitcham Road Cemetery and Queen's Road Cemetery.
If you own an old full grave, you can often add cremated remains to it. This is an ideal way of keeping family members together.
