Emergency support

You can apply for help if you live in Croydon and are in financial hardship and need emergency support.

Housing payment - rent or deposit in advance in advance

Housing payment - deposit, rent or both in advance

A housing payment can be awarded for rent and deposit, or both in advance for a property that you are yet to move into.

We must be satisfied that:

  • the property is affordable long term
  • you have a valid reason to move
  • the deposit is no more than 5 weeks and the rent in advance is no more than 4 weeks
  • you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit for example, housing element of Universal Credit or Housing Benefit from Croydon Council

If you are living at home or with a family member or you are at risk of becoming homeless, then you will need to apply on the housing application page to see what help we can give you. Please do not make an application for a housing payment unless you have spoken to a prevention officer first.

If you have found a property you will need to apply and supply the following evidence:

  • last 3 months bank statement for all accounts held including anyone over 18 years in your household
  • proof of income for example, payslips or Universal Credit including anyone over 18 years in your household
  • completed budget planner (expenses and income based on the new property you are applying for)
  • completed benefits calculation
