Early technical surveys are underway ahead of developing proposals for how to improve Central Parade and the surrounding area.
In 2024/25, New Addington was allocated funding through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund programme to improve the district centres.
As part of this funding, improvement works to the Central Parade Market Square boundaries and stage, as well as external improvement works to the Octagon building, have been completed.
The project brief and design were developed in close collaboration with the New Addington Pathfinders, the New Addington BID and ward councillors. As part of the works, the market square stage has been refurbished and re-surfaced using a more durable material. This helps to maintain the market square as a key community event space. New lamp post banners have been developed with the New Addington BID along the Central Parade in support of local businesses.
The Octagon building has also had light improvement works to the facade, with refurbishment of the New Addington sign. To mark the approach from the tram stop, a new map and noticeboard are now installed to provide directions to amenities and facilities in the area.
A key part of the works along Central Parade is the re-planting of a weeping elm tree adjacent to the Octagon building in commemoration of Tia Sharp.
