Fire and building safety

Information about how we manage Fire and building safety in our council properties. What we do and what we do and what you can do as a tenant.

Higher-risk buildings

Some buildings need extra checks. These are buildings that are either 8 metres high or 7 storeys or more.

For these buildings, each month we check:

  • the Premises Information Box (PIB)
  • firefighting lifts and equipment
  • fire safety systems
  •  signage to help people find their way in an emergency
  • fire alarm panels
  • dry risers

The Premises Information Box includes:

  • building plans
  • the latest fire risk assessment
  • details of external walls
  • asbestos information
  •  key contact details

Building safety

Each higher-risk building has a safety case file. This includes:

  • structural information
  • fire safety strategy
  • building systems information
  • risk assessments
  • a resident engagement plan

We also carry out structural surveys, including checks on cladding.
