Voluntary and community support

Grassroots, hyper-local networks are vital during major incidents to ensure vulnerable, isolated, or elderly residents receive translated, accessible safety information.

Voluntary and community organisations can help communities access information, support vulnerable residents and provide practical assistance during major incidents.

Community organisations can help residents by:

  • sharing official information and safety advice
  • supporting vulnerable or isolated people
  • helping residents access local services and support
  • assisting community recovery following an emergency

Always follow advice issued by emergency services, Croydon Council and other official organisations during an incident.

If you would like to get involved in supporting your local community, contact a local voluntary organisation to find out about volunteering opportunities.

Support your community

During an emergency, consider checking on neighbours, friends and relatives who may need additional support.

This may include older people, people with disabilities, people with long-term health conditions and people who live alone.

Simple actions such as sharing information, collecting essential supplies or helping someone access support can make a significant difference during an emergency.
