Preferred partners chosen to run community bases.
Following the Cabinet approval on 25 September 2024 for the new library service model, we sought community partners and residents to run Community Bases from former library buildings in Bradmore Green, Broad Green, Shirley and Sanderstead library buildings.
Interested parties viewed the buildings and met with local community representatives in October 2024. We engaged directly with ward councillors and local groups such as residents’ associations, regular library users and Friends of the Library groups (where they existed).
The applications were assessed, awarding the following organisations a lease in principle, subject to finalising terms:
Bradmore Green will be established as a non-profit Community Interest Company, providing a range of community focused and locally requested activities including:
The Community Hub will be supported by Meadows, a new term-time preschool for children 0 to 4 years. The focus will be on much needed baby childcare and SEND support.
The Asian Resource Centre of Croydon will establish a community-led, volunteer supported hub open 7 days a week with core services including:
The Story Sanctuary will establish a staff and volunteer-run creative health and wellbeing centre with retained community activities and library outreach service. They may include a small café and will host regular community interest events.
Register your interest and be kept up-to-date on the project.
Play Place will establish a Community Library and Learning Centre which will be a modern hub for learning, connection and empowerment.
