Better: Public sports and leisure facilities

Better aims to get people more active. They promote healthy and active lifestyles, giving communities access to facilities that help improve their health and happiness through participation in activities. 


In the Croydon area they have the Croydon Community Hub, the Outdoor hub for sports, training, events and local sports teams and 33 tennis courts across 14 parks in the borough.

They also offer a range of activities including:

CAYSH: homelessness support

CAYSH works with young people facing homelessness in London, providing safe homes and support to enable them to achieve their potential.

Services include:

  • free advice drop-in
  • housing pathway
  • lodgings
  • support officers

CAYSH operates the appointment free Drop in Zone in Croydon for 16-21s, providing general advice on just about anything and specialist advice to those facing homelessness.

CDI  supports young people aged 11 to 25 years old and families who live, work or study in Croydon.

CDI offer free and confidential counselling information, advice and advocacy services.

Croydon Judo Club

Croydon Judo Club holds Judo classes for young people. There are children's classes for those under 16 years old. This is a safe (no kicking or punching) environment that enables children to play and enjoy the sport as well as learn key skills to improve their overall health and mental stamina.

There are also classes for those who are aged 16+. Each of the adult classes has a slightly different feel, from technical proficiency to competitive practice and free practice (randori)

Croydon Talking Therapies (IAPT)

Croydon Talking Therapies is a free and confidential NHS service provided by the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Croydon Talking Therapies (IAPT) offer a range of psychological therapies.

This service is for: 

  • young people aged 17 and over
  • people living in Croydon
  • people registered with a Croydon GP

Dance Umbrella is London’s international dance festival, celebrating 21st-century dance across the capital. Dance Umbrella celebrate dance through an annual, international London festival, plus year-round creative learning opportunities for all ages.

Gloves not Gunz

Gloves not Gunz offer mentoring and education to young people using the art of boxing as a tool for engagement. 

Programmes include:

Community Boxing: Boxing for all young people

Legacy Youth Zone

Legacy is a multi-purpose facility where young people in Croydon have the opportunity to discover their full potential. For £5 annual membership and 50p per visit young people can: 

  • enjoy a safe space to hang out and make new friends
  • raise their aspirations and confidence 
  • get support in finding out what they want to pursue in life
  • have new experiences and opportunities

Off the Record (OTR)

Off the Record (OTR) provides free, independent and professional counselling for 14 to 25-year-olds in the Croydon area.

This service is for: 

  • young people aged 14 to 25
  • young carers service: aged 7 and over
  • young refugees and/or asylum seekers: aged 11 and over
