The Ethical Care Charter was developed by UNISON in 2012 following a survey carried out with homecare workers entitled ‘Time to care’. The survey results highlighted issues around terms and conditions for workers, which can contribute towards lower standards of care for people receiving homecare services.
Following these results, UNISON called for Councils to become Ethical Care Councils by commissioning services which adhere to the Ethical Care Charter. The over-riding objective behind the Charter is to establish a minimum baseline for the safety, quality and dignity of care through employment conditions.
We have signed the Ethical Care Charter to show our commitment to improving homecare services in Croydon.
