Premises storing explosives, for example, fireworks, flares and air bag inflators, are required to be licenced.

Apply for an explosives licence

Depending on the type and amount of explosives you are storing, there are different licences you can apply for.

Apply for an explosives storage licence of up to 2,000kgs 

Download an application for a storage licence under the explosives regulations 2014 (Word, 77KB)

Complete and return your form to the Trading Standards team, along with the relevant licence fee. All fees can be found on the Health and Safety Executive website.

In addition to completing the application form, there are other documents that need to be submitted to Trading Standards when applying for an explosives licence. The London Fire Brigade also require a written fire risk assessment to be in place for the premises to be licenced.

Apply for an explosives storage licence of over 2,000kgs

For quantities greater than 2,000kg (NEM) an application must be made on the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website.

Apply for a fireworks annual suppliers licence

To sell fireworks all year round, you would need a further fireworks annual suppliers licence at a cost of £500.
