Building, construction and hazardous material licensing and permits

Find out about how to apply for scaffolding, cherry pickers, hoarding, cranes, materials, containers and scrap metal registration and licences. As well as skip operating permits, and poison and explosive licences.

Scrap metal registration

If you wish to trade in metals or motor salvage you will need to apply for either a site licence or a mobile collectors licence or both.

Crane licences

You'll need a licence to either use a crane on a public highway or a crane that sails over a public highway.

Mobile scaffolding and cherry picker licences

You'll need a licence to erect scaffolding or use a mobile scaffold on the public highway, as well as use a cherry picker on the public highway.

Containers, materials, scaffolding, cabins and hoardings licences

You will need a licence to place a container, scaffolding, a cabin or building materials on the public highway, as well as erect hoardings on the public highway.

Skip operator's permit

A permit is required if you wish to place a builder's skip on any part of the highway.

Poisons licence

If you wish to acquire, import, possess or use certain amounts of poisons, you must have a valid explosives precursors and poisons (EPP) licence.

Explosives licence

Premises storing explosives, for example, fireworks, flares and air bag inflators, are required to be licenced.
