If you're a business that deals with animals, for example if you breed dogs or hire out horses, you will need to apply for an animal welfare licence.
There's a different process if you're keeping or moving animals.
To apply for a new an animal welfare licence, complete the online form relevant to your establishment by selecting from the list below.
Each form will tell you what the fee is before you start, and you will be asked for payment with a credit or debit card at the end of the form.

A dangerous wild animal licence is valid for two years from the date of the grant of the licence.

Licenses for keeping or training animals for exhibition will not be star rated and will all be issued for a duration of 3 years if an application is granted.

Apply for a licence to hire out horses
Licensed riding establishments are required to be inspected by a veterinary officer every year irrespective of star rating during the term of the licence. The fees shown are for a 1 year licence and so incorporate one further inspection fee.
If a 2 year licence is granted for hiring out horses, 2 further vet inspection fees will be incorporated into the licence fee. If a 3 year licence is granted, 3 further vet inspection fees will be incorporated into the licence fee.
If you wish to run a zoo, you must apply to the Licensing team for a licence under the Zoo Licensing Act 1981. Please see the guidance for applying for a zoo licence.
