Find out about burial services in Croydon.
Generally, the right to burial in a grave is purchased for 50 year renewable periods. For new graves, the purchaser must decide how many burials are allowed in the grave (from 1 to 3). Each grave is numbered and maintained on a plan. Details of the owner of the grave right and the burials are maintained forever on computerised records. The owner of the right must give written permission for all burials and memorial work.
The owner of the right can bequeath it through a will, or assign it to another person during their lifetime. A formal request must be made to transfer the ownership. The owner of the grave right does not own the land, which remains with the council.
Grave rights can be purchased in advance and a memorial can be placed before death. The maintenance at our cemeteries is similar and includes fortnightly mowing. This is an average and not bowling green standard.
Various types of grave are available in our cemeteries.
