There are several different ways of paying your council tax.
Setting up a direct debit payment is the easiest way to pay - use the online form.
- you have a choice of 4 payment dates: 1st, 5th, 15th or 25th - this is the only method of payment available which enables us to receive your payment on a date other than the 5th of the month
- you can extend your payments over 12 months instead of the usual 10
- your payments are collected automatically, saving you time and reduces the risk of recovery action
- it's a simple and convenient way to pay
- it's the safest way of paying
- you are automatically entered into the direct debit prize draw
You can also use the online form to change the account your direct debit payments are collected from and the payment date.
Manage your council tax online in My Account
Using My Account, you can check your Council Tax account online and see your account balance, instalment plan and payments.
In My Account you can also:
- view a statement of your account
- view the payments you have made
- view the instalments to be paid
- make a payment
- sign up for direct debits
- download, print or email PDF formatted versions of your bill

Other ways of paying
Payments by any other method other than direct debit must be received on your council tax account by the 5th of the month. Payments can take several days to be received, so it is important they are paid in advance of your instalment date.
You can make a credit or debit card payment through our touchtone service by phoning 0345 3000 614 (option 3).
We recommend that you have your council tax account number handy, as well as a pen and paper to make a note of the reference number for your payment.
Internet banking or telephone banking
When paying by this method, quote the council's sort code 57-10-70, and bank account number 01000624. You will also need to provide your reference number this will be: 09/then your council tax account reference number (this is the eight digit number shown on your council tax bill under account reference).
Local shop by PayPoint
You can pay your council tax at any outlet displaying the PayPoint logo using cash only. To make payment you will need to use the barcode that is printed on your council tax bill or payment slip.

You can pay at any post office by cash, cheque or debit card. You will need your council tax bill or payment slip which will be printed with a barcode.
Bank or building society
To pay at a bank counter you will need the bank giro credit slip which is printed on your council tax bill. Cheques should be made payable to Croydon council and you will need to write your eight digit council tax account reference number on the back. You may be charged for this service.
Credit or debit card online
You can pay your council tax securely online.
Cheque in the post
Cheques should be made payable to Croydon council and sent to the address at the bottom of the page. Write your 8 digit council tax account reference number on the back of the cheque and remember to include your payment slip.
Please do not send cash in the post.
