We are considering introducing a lane rental scheme on a proportion of our road network.
This is in accordance with the Street Works (Charges for Occupation of the Highway) (England) Regulations 2012 (the Lane Rental Regulations), made under Section 74A of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA).

Before consulting on our Lane Rental Scheme proposals, we reviewed our Traffic Sensitive Designations of our proposed Lane Rental Network. In accordance with Section 64 of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) and Regulation 16 of the Street Works (Registers, Notices, Directions and Designations) (England) Regulations 2007, we hereby provide the required one-month stakeholder notification of our proposed Lane Rental Scheme network.
The Traffic Sensitive Streets consultation ended on 14th December 2025.
The London Borough of Croydon is now consulting with all stakeholders and businesses on the lane rental scheme documentation.
In accordance with the ‘Lane Rental Schemes: Guidance for English Highway Authorities’ issued by the Department for Transport, the London Borough of Croydon is entering a period of consultation. The consultation period started on 16th September 2026 and will end on 15th October 2026.
