Education, training and careers for 16 to 19s

Information and advice to help young people prepare for their future, including the steps to success bulletin, post-16 options, what you and the council can do, and professionals working with young people.

Professionals working with young people / parents or carers who wish to refer

The aim of the Post-16 Participation and NEET team is to offer one-to-one support to young people, equipping them with the required skills and information to set them on a path to appropriate education, employment or training.

Who can apply

You can apply for support if your child, or a young person you work with, is:

  • aged 16 to 18, or up to age 24 if they have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
  • not in education, employment or training (NEET)

Refer a young person

To ensure that NEET young people have prompt access to support, referrals are triaged within 2 weeks.

Please download and complete the referral form at the bottom of this page and email it to post16@croydon.gov.uk

On receipt of a referral form, the referring professional or parent / carer will be contacted to confirm to whom the case was allocated and in some cases, why the referral could not be processed or allocated.

Advertise in our bulletin

You can request for your information, opportunities or adverts to be included in our daily circulation. Information should be about:

  • accredited work-based training
  • programme led training
  • an employment opportunity or
  • an event appropriate for young people 16 to 18, or up to age 24 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

To ensure the opportunities young people access are accredited, regulated and meet safeguarding standards, we may ask you to evidence how your programme or provision is quality assured, for example by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Big Lottery or another regulator.
