UK Shared Prosperity Programme in Thornton Heath

In 2024/25, Thornton Heath was allocated funding through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund programme to improve the district centres.

The main project delivered as part of the Thornton Heath funding allocation is the creation of a new learning garden situated along Colliers Water Lane. This project was the result of consultation with local ward councillors, community groups and the local school.

The garden will be used by the local community and by the local school, Whitehorse Manor Schools-Brigstock Site. The space is home to:

  • bug hotels
  • raised planters with edible and sensory planting for educational purposes
  • seasonal planting and soft landscaping on the ground
  • a small amphitheater for outdoor classes
  • a shed for a rainwater harvesting and compost area

Funding was also allocated across 2 additional sites in Thornton Heath and West Thornton Wards, specifically the Thornton Heath Pond Roundabout and Thornton Heath Clocktower. These sites received improvement and maintenance works for the existing green spaces.
