In August 2023 we announced the launch of a series of ‘blitz’ clean-ups, helping to restore pride in the borough’s district and town centres.
Our ‘blitz cleans’ are helping to restore pride in district and town centres across the borough.
Each blitz clean is tailored to the local area. We start each blitz with a walkabout with residents and businesses, to understand the issues they are experiencing.
Our blitz squad carries out a range of targeted activity over several weeks, from tackling fly-tipping to removing graffiti, deep cleansing, streets, providing trading standards advice for businesses and enforcing against illegal parking.
We support small businesses to remove and prevent graffiti and fly-tipping on their property. Where needed, we provide a first clean free of charge and provide advice and tips to keep shops looking great.
After the clean-up, we work with residents and businesses to keep the area looking its best.
Everyone can do their bit by reporting environmental issues like fly-tipping, graffiti and full bins through the Love Clean Streets app. Love Clean Streets can also be accessed with a browser on a desktop computer.
Using the data obtained from the Love Clean Streets app, Norbury was the first of several high streets identified as a priority. In August and September 2023, the council accomplished an 84% drop in fly-tipping during the blitz clean-up period.

Our second blitz clean took place in the summer 2024 in Thornton Heath. Antisocial behaviours such as graffiti, fly-tipping and illegal parking were tackled in the area.
Our blitz squad were in New Addington for three weeks over October and November 2024. We removed industrial fly-tipping and gave advice to business on how to dispose of their waste alongside freshening up and cleaning Central Parade which included cleaning signs, trimming trees , removing old street furniture and refreshing road lines.
The next blitz clean will take place in Addiscombe in early 2025.
All blitz clean locations will be announced via our news site and social media channels (Instagram, Facebook and X), as well as via the weekly e-newsletter. Follow and subscribe to stay up-to-date on the latest news.
