If you have a disability, you may be able to get changes made to your home to help you live safely and independently.

Our Major Adaptations team manages the assessment process and arranges the work.

Who can apply

This service is for Croydon residents who need home adaptations because of a disability, including:

  • council tenants  
  • homeowners and leaseholders
  • private tenants  
  • housing association tenants

Types of adaptations

Adaptations may include:

  • level access showers  
  • stair lifts  
  • ramps  
  • widening doorways  
  • adapted kitchens  
  • equipment such as hoists or automatic doors  

How it works

Contact Occupational Therapy 

You must contact our Occupational Therapy service to start the process.

Assessment 

An Occupational Therapist will assess your needs and recommend suitable adaptations. 

Review and prioritisation 

Your case is reviewed and prioritised based on your needs. 

Planning the work 

How the work is arranged depends on your housing.

Council tenants

The Major Adaptations Team will arrange the work.

Homeowners, leaseholders and housing association or private tenants

The work is arranged through the Staying Put service.

What to expect

There may be a wait for your assessment and for work to begin because of high demand. You will be kept updated throughout the process.

Specialist contractors will complete the work.
