General health services

GPs 

Your GP should be your first port of call for any non-emergency problems which could be physical, psychological or a combination of both. If you are not registered with a GP you can sign-up with a local GP practice

Hospital services: If your GP feels you need specialist assessment, investigations or treatment, they will refer you to a hospital to be seen by an appropriate specialist.  The main hospital in Croydon is Croydon University Hospital.
 

Minor Injuries Unit (The Hub)

The MIU is now called The Hub. Opening hours are now 8am to 8pm, Monday to Sunday.

Urgent care: for patients who have a minor illness or urgent medical problem which is not life-threatening but needs urgent attention. There are two Hubs available which are:

NHS 111

This is a free, one-stop number for patients with urgent, but not life-threatening symptoms who want a fast and easy way to get help when they need it. You should call 111 if:

  • you need medical help fast but it is not a 999 emergency
  • you think you need to go to A&E or need another NHS urgent care service
  • you need to access out of hours GP services in Croydon
  • you do not know who to call or you do not have a GP to call
  • you need health information or reassurance about what to do next

For less urgent health needs, contact your GP or local pharmacist in the usual way. For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, call 999.

Going into hospital with a learning disability

Going into hospital is a worrying time for any of us. It can be even harder for someone who has a learning disability. If you're looking after an adult or child with a learning disability, the NHS have a useful collection of information, videos and guides about what happens when you go to hospital, getting advice whilst in hospital, getting consent and communicating with staff.

Mental health emergencies

  • people who are receiving support from community mental health services should contact their resource centre and ask to speak to their care coordinator or duty worker
  • people who are not receiving support from mental health services should call the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) information line on 0800 731 2864
  • out of hours, people should go to accident and emergency at Croydon University Hospital and ask to see the duty psychiatrist

Out of hours services

Out-of-hours GP and dental services are for when urgent medical attention is required and should only be contacted if you can not wait until the next day to be treated.
