London Borough of Croydon

We do not manage waiting lists for secondary schools. Please contact the school directly with any questions.

Coronavirus (COVID-19):

The School Admissions Team is running a good service and will continue to process all applications.

It may take us longer than usual to respond to your application. Please be assured that we will reply to all applications, you do not need to contact us again after submitting. Thank you for your patience.

If your child has an education health and care plan that specifies the school best suited for your child’s needs, contact senenquiries@croydon.gov.uk for admissions information.

Independent school admissions are managed Independent Schools Council not Croydon Council.

Applying for a school place

Step 1: Do your research

Step 2: Complete the relevant application forms

The majority of schools require you to complete an in-year application. You will need to complete this using our online portal.

If you are unable to complete the application online, please visit a local library where you will be able to use a computer and seek support if required.  Please contact the School Admissions team at Croydon if you require further support to complete an application.

Some schools require additional information to assess your application which you must provide through a supplementary information form (SIF). The school requiring a SIF must be a preferred school on your application; you still need to complete a common application for if you have a SIF

Step 3: Wait for confirmation

We will acknowledge receipt within 7 days of receiving your application.

After you apply

Details of your application for a secondary school are forwarded to each school named on your application, the school(s) will place your child on the waiting list. If a school has a vacancy and your child is at the top of their waiting list, the school will contact you to offer a place.

Secondary schools maintain their own waiting list, please contact them directly to check your waiting list position. You will remain on the waiting list until the end of the academic year. If you wish to be considered for the school after this point you must re-apply by completing a new in-year application.

If you are offered any of the preferred schools which you listed on your school application, you will not automatically be placed on the waiting list for any other preference school/schools listed. You will need to complete the waiting list request form to request to be added to the waiting list.

If your child is currently out of education and you are unable to secure an offer of a school place at one of your preference schools, you must contact the Croydon School Admissions team to discuss alternative options.

Appeals

Admissions surgery

• do you need advice/support in completing your application?

• have you applied and want to discuss your child’s application?

• have a general query about an in-year school transfer?

• is your child out of school?

Speak with a member of our school admissions team, located on the first floor of Croydon Central library, every first and third Monday of the month, between 9am and 7pm.

Look out for our pop up surgeries at various libraries within the borough.

An in-year admission is when you apply for a school place in an existing year group (outside of the normal admissions round) and at a time when your child should already be attending school.
