How to apply for a school place

Published Admission Number for 2017/18 and 2018/19 Academic Years

In 2013, Croydon experienced a 5% drop in birth rate and consequently has seen a drop in demand for Reception places. This has resulted in a higher than necessary level of surplus places in some of the educational planning areas across the borough. One of the areas affected by this is the East primary planning area, where Monks Orchard Primary School is situated.

As a result, Croydon Council, as the Admissions Authority, applied to the Office for the Schools’ Adjudicator (OSA) to seek approval of the reduction in Monks Orchard Primary School’s PAN from 90 to 60 for the 2017/18 & 2018/19 academic years. This application was approved by the OSA and therefore the PAN for the 2017/18 and 2018/19 Reception classes is 60.

Published Admission Number from 2019/20.

Between 08 November and 20 December 2017, in accordance with the School Admissions Code (2014), the council consulted with key stakeholders for six weeks on the proposal to reduce the Published Admission Number (PAN) for Monks Orchard Primary School by one form of entry (1FE) – 30 Reception pupils - from September 2019.

The responses received during the consultation period were analysed and used to create the consultation outcomes report which was put to the council’s Cabinet Committee on 22 January 2018 and to Full Council on 29 January 2018 . Both the Cabinet Committee and Full Council agreed the council’s proposal and as a result, from September 2019 the PAN for Monks Orchard Primary School will be 60.
