Independent visitors are volunteers who befriend and support children and young people who are looked after by Croydon council.
All children looked after should, by law, be offered the chance to have an independent visitor.
Volunteer Independent visitors can make a real difference to a young person by sharing a hobby, sport, or interest. They can help with school or college work or help a young person learn about their own or other people's culture. They meet regularly with a young person to do activities together, talk, be supportive and have fun.
We are looking for ordinary people who have a passion for caring for children and wanting them to succeed. Sometimes young people in care need an independent friend in their lives to lean on, to offer them a safe space and time to be themselves. We are in urgent need of more volunteers to step forward to support Croydon’s vulnerable children and young people.
By volunteering with Croydon, you will support children in the community build positive relationships, broaden their horizon and have fun with someone who’s not paid to spend time with them. As a volunteer, you will show empathy and offer a listening ear to a young person in Croydon.
Does this sound like something you want to do? Give back to your community and start your volunteering journey today!
