Electoral Commission data breach
Tuesday 8 August 2023
The Electoral Commission has advised us that it was subject to a cyber-attack in August 2021. The incident was identified in October 2022 after suspicious activity was detected on its systems.
At the time of the attack, the systems included the name and address of anyone in the UK who was registered to vote between 2014 and 2022, as well as the names of those registered as overseas voters. The data did not include the details of anonymous voters.
The Commission has since worked with the National Cyber Security Centre to investigate and secure its systems.
No Croydon systems have been compromised by this breach.
Further Information about the breach can be found on the Electoral Commission website.
