Someone who has made an outstanding contribution to volunteering in Croydon this year.
Winner: George Campbell
George Campbell has been a scout leader for over 15 years and is a very dedicated and highly motivated Scout Leader with the 1st Crystal Palace Scout Group. During 2014 he was running 2 scout troops, every Wednesday and every Thursday evening for over 20 scouts in each troop.
He delivers an exciting and challenging programme of traditional scouting activities, which during 2014 included a hugely successful survival weekend for 50 scouts in May 2014 and a week long summer camp at Poole Harbour, taking 20 scouts on a kayaking trip to Brown-sea Island, birthplace of Scouting.
He will be taking 20 Explorers and some of his older scouts to the Gambia in 2016 to volunteer with a charity.
George is a strong believer that young people need to be given positive challenges to grow into confident young adults that can cope with life's many challenges. His scouts are a true representation of Croydon's varied communities. He has the gift of relating to all of them, giving guidance and enforcing strict rules, for which his scouts and parents respect him greatly.
