Order a copy of a certificate
Processing times
We have currently suspended processing copy certificates issued before 2008, due to an issue with our register storage
Any orders received after 29 April 2024 will be refunded. This will take around 20 working days.
All orders received up to and including 29 April 2024 will be produced. This will take around 6 weeks from the date the order was received.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Delivery times vary based on the date the original certificate was issued:
- certificates issued from 2008 onwards can take up to 6 weeks
- for certificates issued before 2008, you can get a copy of it by visiting the General Register Office web page
Make an order
We need to be able to find the original registration before we can make a copy. Make sure you are able to give us the relevant information.
You can order a copy of:
- birth certificates
- death certificates
- marriage or civil partnership certificates
There is a different process for ordering adoption, citizenship, naturalisation and gender recognition certificates.
How much it costs
Certificates cost £12.50 each, plus £3 (recorded delivery of up to 5 certificates).
If the birth, death, marriage or civil partnership took place outside of Croydon
You must contact the local authority in which the event occurred or apply for a certificate – GOV.UK.
If you are applying from outside Britain
You can only order from the General Register Office – GOV.UK
If the event took place before 1 July 1837
