Order a copy of a certificate
Due to issues accessing records we have had to suspend the order and production of historical certificates from before 2020. We hope to resume this service once we have resolved the issue.
If you need any historic certificates you can order from The General Register Office.
We need to be able to find the original registration before we can make a copy. Make sure you are able give us the relevant information.
You can order a copy of:
- birth certificates
- death certificates
- marriage or civil partnership certificates
Due to current high volumes it can take up to 10 working days to process your order and post it to you.
There is a different process for ordering adoption, citizenship, naturalisation and gender recognition certificates.
How much it costs
Certificates cost £11 each, plus £3 (recorded delivery of up to 5 certificates).
After you've applied
If the birth, death, marriage or civil partnership took place outside of Croydon
You must contact the local authority in which the event occurred or apply for a certificate – GOV.UK.
If you are applying from outside Britain
You can only order from the General Register Office – GOV.UK
If the event took place before 1 July 1837
Information on how to get a certificate can be found at The National Archive – nationalarchives.gov.uk
