How to get the most from the About Your Area website.
No, you can set any address using Your home. If you're interested in a new or different part of the borough, just search for another street or postcode and set it as Your home.
Distances are measured as the crow flies - a straight line from your home to the place or service.
Yes, there is a "Miles" button at the top of the page on the right hand side under the purple banner.
You can zoom into the map in different ways. You can move the cursor over an area and use the mouse scroll button to zoom in or out on that area. To centre and zoom in on an area, double click the area. Or use controls on the map in the top left corner - pan using the arrows in the circle or move the slider up or down using the [+] or [-] icons at each end.
Click a map icon to show key information about the place or service in a pop-up window. For even more information, click More in the bottom right corner of the pop-up window.
Yes, on the panel beside the map on the right, called Plotted points. Click the place or service title to expand a list showing all the points on the map. These are ordered alphabetically, or if you have saved a home address, they are ordered by distance to your home. Click an item in the list to highlight it on the map.
If you have zoomed into the map, you are probably only able to see a small selection of places and services available in the borough. In this case, the panel lets you know how many items (points) you can see plotted on the map and how many items there are in the whole borough. Zoom out to see more items.
Click on the icon, the info window will open showing more information. Inside the window there is a link "Is this location wrong? Tell us!" Or you can email the GIS team directly at gis@croydon.gov.uk.
For the best experience you should use the latest version of your browser. To see what browser you are currently using, visit What's My Browser.
If this isn't possible, you can try using the accessible version of the site. This doesn't use an interactive map but still gives you all the information on normal web pages. The accessible version is accessed by the link on the right hand side under the purple header bar.
The most common cause of information not loading is an old browser. Check you have the latest version of your browser and try deleting your temporary internet files and cache in the browser.
If you live in the borough but your address isn't found, try searching for just the post code (ensure there is a space in the middle: "CR9 0JS") or just the street name by itself. If the postcode or street name can not be found, you can report a missing address using our online form.
