Winter preparedness

With unpredictable temperatures our plans for wintery weather are underway across the borough.

Plans for cold weather and minimising disruption on the roads include having a large stockpile of salt, ready to be used when the temperature drops. 

The gritting route that Croydon’s fleet take focuses on:

  • main road
  • bus routes
  • hazardous locations such as steep slopes
  • busy footpaths
  • roads leading to hospitals, medical centres, fire stations, schools and transport stations

The borough’s 578 salt bins have been topped up for residents to use. Priority footway gritting will be carried out by our contractor, Veolia.

Due to limited daylight hours, drivers are reminded to take extra care to watch out for pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users as driving conditions become more challenging. Cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to make sure they are visible to other road users.

Potholes are more likely to appear during the colder months as roads tend to expand and contract during this time.
