Future private rented property licensing
There is no current requirement for landlords to license private rented properties (other than mandatory houses in multiple occupation).
Proposed licensing scheme – Croydon Private Rented Property Licence (CPRPL) 2020
Following a decision at cabinet on 11 May 2020, we applied to the government for a further full borough selective licensing scheme on 20 July 2020. On 8 June 2021 we heard that the proposed scheme had been refused.
The refusal decision by the government was reported to the cabinet at Croydon on 16 August 2021. Members heard that the Council had been unsuccessful with its preferred approach of a full borough licensing scheme.
Review of options to improve the borough’s PRS
It was agreed at Cabinet on 16 August 2021 that the Council would look at the options it had available, to consider what would be the best approach to tackle the problems identified relating to property condition and Anti Social Behaviour (ASB). The Council is determined to make improvements to a sector that provides a home to more than one third of Croydon households. The details of the options will be published on this page when it has been completed.
