The council budget 2020/21

Building a fairer, stronger and more sustainable Croydon.

To build a fairer, stronger and more sustainable Croydon, the budget for the next financial year will prioritise investing in local people, vulnerable residents and protecting local public services.

Like councils across the UK, Croydon must balance increasing demand for its services, despite the lack of funding from central government. The council has made savings of over £200m and is expected to make more.

Despite these huge financial challenges, the council is determined to protect local public services that local residents want us to provide.

To achieve this, Croydon carefully manages the money it has and is developing new and innovative ways to deliver services.

Through early intervention work with our partners in Croydon’s localities, we are supporting residents who need help at the earliest opportunity, delivering services in the right place at the right time.

This work has helped our over 65s stay healthy and independent for longer and is giving our children help and support when and where they need it.

Since 2010

  • We receive 75% less grant funding from the government
  • Savings of £242 million have been delivered.
