Community based projects at our extra care homes

Toldene Court volunteering day

Gardening and tidy up

When speaking with the residents at our extra care home in Toldene Court, they expressed the need for help with garden improvements and reduction work. This would improve the appearance of the area and garden spaces.

From the feedback, and as part of our social value commitments, the repairs and maintenance team coordinated some volunteering days. Once the clear up had taken place, we encouraged residents to go out and enjoy the garden. Staff engaged in conversation with residence to assess their appetite to do a little gardening.

Feedback from residents

  • One 96-year-old lady offered garden tools if we needed them and was happy to supervise some of the team for the day and she had her story to tell.

  • Another resident mentioned that they were about to pay someone to do some gardening work but was delighted it was being taken care of at no cost.

  • Other residents offered cold refreshments and freely offered supervision and her story

Feedback from staff at Toldene Court

“I spoke to some of the residents, and they were really impressed and said it looks absolutely lovely and that they are really looking forward to getting out and planting some bulbs for spring, now that there’s space. It appears that it has inspired the residents!”
