The event was designed to provide people with access to multiple services in one place and give advice and guidance on their journey, ultimately to a place they can call home
The day was an opportunity for the attendees to inquire about housing, benefits, universal credit and employment support.
In collaboration with the Council Responsive repair team, staff volunteers and the resident liaison officers from Axis Europe they were all on hand to provide refreshments and hand out ‘family gift packs’ full of household essentials (such as tinned food, toothpaste and tissues) to attendees once they had finished their consultations
Alistair Shervington, Project Officer at Croydon Council added: “The attendees were unaware that they would receive a ‘Family Pack’ and it was noted that when received they thought it was just full of leaflets like so many packs are at these kinds of events. It was heart-warming to see people’s faces light up and one person said that she doesn’t get given things like this.
Other attendees had said that the warm welcome, a hot drink and some biscuits while they waited made them feel much more relaxed and put at ease awaiting their appointments.
