Reviewing requests and conducting assessments

Every request is reviewed by the Special Educational Needs and Disability support (SEND) team, they will then recommend whether or not an assessment should take place.

If we decide make an assessment

  1. We will assess your request for an assessment.
  2. We will write to you to confirm or deny your request within 6 weeks.
  3. If your request is accepted, we will arrange an assessment in 4 weeks.
  4. After your assessment, we'll write to confirm recommendations which you can review and comment on.

If you disagree with a decision

A parent, carer or young person over 16 can:

  • ask for for mediation or dispute resolution to provide independent advise
  • appeal to the SEND tribunal at particular points in the EHC needs assessment process

Information on making an appeal can be found on GOV.UK.

Who to talk to if you have concerns

You will be appointed with a EHCP coordinator who you can contact at any point in the assessment process.
